Country Week
Pluck, strum, fiddle, and belt your way through a pile of old and new country favorites
What is country music? One definition is that it's a distinctly American song form using simple chord progressions, traditional instruments, and lyrics that tell a story.
This makes country music a perfect musical genre to share with kids. They are instantly attracted to the storylines of the songs, and can learn the songs very quickly due to their simplicity. Guitar, piano, fiddle, ukulele, bass, drums, banjo and mandolin can all find a home in the ensemble, and the more the merrier.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- great songs by Johnny Cash, The Dixie Chicks, The Carter Family, Patsy Cline, Taylor Swift, and more
- the song forms most often used in country music
- the three chords that will be your trusty allies in each key
- how to create a new part for an existing song based on a simple five-note scale
- how to harmonize a melody line
As with all of our workshops, we group participants based on both age and experience. The week will end with a performance for friends and family.
This workshop will be offered the weeks of June 11 and July 9, 2012 at 56 17th Street in Ansley Park. Sign up now!
All Eclectic Music workshops are one-week, half-day workshops in which participants (ages five and up) are grouped based on age and experience. Two workshops can be combined to create a full-day workshop. Tuition starts at $160 per workshop and are 10% off until April 1.
