This is a taste of the types of activities kids will do in our Daily Music Camp. Although we cannot guarantee a particular theme or activity on a particular day, we can certainly be responsive to your input.
This is the perfect workshop for someone who loves to play with building toys like Legos. We'll build Lego musical instruments for our minifigures and check out cool working instruments that people have designed and built out of Legos. We'll undertake building challenges with our Rube Goldberg-style musical marble runs. We will combine notes using a special set of Duplos and play the resulting chords on the chromatic resonator bells. Using a combination of bell sets, we will construct a "musical puzzle" where we line up all of the notes of a song in sequence. The notes of the song can then be played from left-to-right, giving beginners a way of performing a song fluently without having to find the notes individually.
A one-day version of our hit Glee Club workshop, this workshop allows participants to enjoy singing together under the guidance of a voice teacher. We'll practice good vocal technique, learn rounds and basic harmonies, and even try solo singing if we are ready. We'll sing old favorites (based on the requests of the participants) and learn some new songs together.
This playful workshop will encourage aspiring songwriters and composers to create music regardless of their experience on an instrument. We'll write lyrics, create melodies, play games that help us build melodic and rhythmic patterns, and improvise using a simple five-note scale.
Aspiring drummers will find a home in this workshop or even just kids who like to make a whole lot of noise and bang on things! We'll channel all that energy into creating music in unexpected ways: creating percussion ensembles out of household objects and our own bodies, building our own musical instruments, and experimenting with sound design. Kids will learn rhythms "by ear" and "by eye," improve their ability to follow directions and integrate their musical performance with the group, and build their critical thinking skills.
Jamming with a band is incredibly fun, but it's not just for experienced musicians. It can be done by beginners as well! In this workshop, you'll learn some basic music theory and instrument skills that will allow you to collaborate with your fellow participants. You'll also listen to some incredible music, watch some classic recordings of live performances, and play musical games.
The resonator bells are a great introduction to playing an instrument for a beginner, and they also help older or more experienced students to learn music theory. In this workshop, participants will learn how to play lots of classic melodies. They'll also improvise, play as an ensemble, and experiment with harmony. They'll use not only the colorful eight note bells but also the Boomwhackers, the handbells, and our chromatic bell set.
This is a one-day version of our popular Ultra Uke workshop. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can learn notes and chords on this delightful Hawaiian instrument.
Here's a one day version of our popular Piano Boot Camp, sure to whet your child's appetite for more! The perfect introduction to piano - no experience required. Participants will learn to find the keys of the keyboard, some pentatonic melodies, simple bass patterns, and even some basic music-reading skills.
