Bennett Walton

Bennett Walton - HS - sized.jpeg

BENNETT WALTON

is a guitar, bass, mandolin, songwriting, ukulele and band coaching instructor with Eclectic Music! Bennett's passion for music began in his family's living room, listening to his mother's record collection that included a wide range of classics such as Aretha Franklin, Fleetwood Mac, and the Beatles. When he would sing along, dance to the beat, or bang on their old piano unceremoniously, he felt a connection with those old songs that he had found in few other places. One of his favorite things of all was the rare occasion when his grandfather would strum his dusty guitar and sing lovely folk melodies and silly songs; at these times Bennett knew that this, more than anything, was what he wanted to do. Later, he joined the church choir and played handbells to develop his understanding of music. In 2001, Bennett received his first electric guitar; it was then that he felt that he finally had an instrument that was truly his.

From 2005 to 2009 Bennett attended the Savannah College of Art and Design where he focused on theatre and earned a BA in Film and Television. At SCAD, he fostered his interest in the narratives we use to spark empathy and explore new perspectives through various mediums. Upon returning to Atlanta, he found a way to bring his passion for narrative and his love of music together by playing guitar for professional musicals in town; he's performed in the band for musicals such as Spring Awakening, Rent, Freaky Friday, A Light in the Piazza, and many others. In 2014, Bennett took the next step in his music career by attending the Atlanta Institute of Music, where he developed his musical talent, dove deeper into music theory, and learned to tell his stories through his six string while capturing a solid understanding of the recording process. He left AIMM in 2016 with an Associates Degree in Music & Technology and a renewed fire to give music his all and spread the love and joy of music through teaching and live performance. When he's not teaching, you can find him in his studio rocking out, with his band or on his own.

Bennett’s teaching style can best be described as adaptable, low key, and centered on engendering a passion for music as a whole. With much of his early instruction being of a self-taught or informal nature, he prefers to listen to the needs of the individual student as opposed to following a strict lesson plan. Learning to play an instrument requires a certain level of dedication, patience, and practice, but first and foremost it should be enjoyable! Bennett works with each student to zero in on the aspect of music that excites them to pick up their instruments, fitting their lessons to their musical taste. Whether they are interested in becoming a six-string shredder, a strumming singer-songwriter, or simply looking for a hobby to further enrich their lives, Bennett is ready to help them along.

“Michael inspired our daughter to return to the guitar.  He encourages her by having her play the music she likes and then he incorporates the music theory around it. This unique approach keeps her engaged and wanting to learn more!

- Lee, parent

"Michael probably had every song ever written between 1960 and 2000 memorized and could teach so well that he could make you feel like anyone from Richards to Clapton."

- Reid, student

“I have been a student of Michael's for 3 1/2 years. With his help, my guitar playing ability has risen to an entirely new level! He is by far the best teacher I have had in my almost 20 years of playing the instrument. His knowledge of theory combined with his uncanny ability to decipher songs by ear and his genuine love of music make him uniquely qualified as an instructor. I highly recommend him to beginning, intermediate and advanced students of all ages!”

- Dina, student

“I have been taking guitar lessons from Michael for almost two years now. We work on some theory, but many times work on songs that I want to learn. I have enjoyed my lessons and highly recommend Michael's teaching style. He is talented, prepared, and really knows what he is doing. I have improved so much thanks to Michael.”

- Julie, student

"As one of Michael’s adult students, I appreciate his patience, encouragement and encyclopedic knowledge. His fluency in rock guitar is amazing. His passion for music, knowledge of theory and mastery of the guitar all make his lessons fun and rich in content.

- Johanna, student

"My 17 year old son has been taking music lessons for over 8 years, since he was in 4th grade. Michael's encouragement helped push him outside his comfort zone to achieve new depths in playing guitar. Lessons with Michael were always the highlight of his week. We believed Michael’s encouragement and exposure to performing on stage helped Reid to create his own garage band where they perform at venues such as Masquerade, Smith's Old Bar, Center Stage and local ATL festivals. We highly recommend Michael and his many talents as a guitar teacher, especially to kids who want to have fun while playing!"

Alonso Padron

Alonso Listening To Playback For Funk Song Recording, 800 East Studios.JPG

Alonso Padron

is a guitar, electric bass, and ukulele teacher at Eclectic Music. He became engrossed with music at the early age of 5, first with the sounds of a record from Venezuela, then from the sounds of both his parents on the piano around the house, his father playing jazz and his mother playing classical, and then finally through his own early piano studies. But it was only when, a few years later, that a friend showed Alonso how to strum a few chords of a song that he became captivated by the guitar, and has been so ever since. He attended college at the University of Georgia, and took courses in music history, theory, and applied studies and has been teaching music professionally since 1999.

Alonso actively performs regionally with bands and duos, ranging in styles from rock, folk, blues, soul, funk, popular, classical, jazz and flamenco. He has also played in several rock outfits such as Street Poets, Los Sonidos, and LB Collective, performing at various venues in Georgia such as The Boar’s Head, The Brandyhouse, Somber Reptile, C.J.’s Landing, The Mansion, Smith’s Olde Bar, and The Strand, and most notably, at the prestigious club Vinyl in midtown, Atlanta. In addition to his active performance career, he has also recorded two original albums and has written and recorded original scoring for Georgia Public Television.

Teaching music combines all of Alonso’s prime interests and passions, which are music, psychology, and interpersonal one-on-one interaction. With an uncanny ability to adapt to different personalities and ages, thereby making it a comfortable learning environment for each student, Alonso also prides himself on a careful balance between being systematic, organized, and detailed in his lessons, while remaining flexible enough to tailor his teaching to every student's goals. Above all, Alonso seeks to inspire his students to inspire themselves.

TESTIMONIALS.

"I've taken guitar lessons with Alonso for over five years, and it has been a great experience. He impressed me with his own extensive skill and followed through by passing on his knowledge to me as I grew as a guitar player. He makes everything from music theory to jazz scales interesting by tying it to familiar songs and riffs that I recognize. Because of Alonso, playing guitar has become my favorite hobby and an integral part of my life."

- Michael, student, age 17

"Alonso was my guitar teacher for a total of 6 years. In that time he has inspired me to do what I truly want to do. I've never had someone so patient, and excited to teach me everything he could. Although he wasn't just a teacher, he was my friend, and we didn't always talk about music, we talked about life. We shared our experiences, our troubles, our triumphs whether it was musical or something else. He treated me as an equal which is something you find not often enough in not just a teacher, but for anyone. He is such a compassionate guy, and we made an immediate connection. When it came to music/guitar, he really helped me realize my passion, and not only that but he helped me pursue it as a real career. I'm about to enter Clayton State University's music program and it is all because of Alonso Padron. He is the most inspirational role model I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I'm proud to call him not just my mentor, but my friend. He will always be close to me, and I know that he treats all of his students with respect, patience, and compassion. I believe with all that I am that he is the best guitar teacher for any student. "
