Guitar Class

A collaborative, flexible learning environment

Often, a person's motivation for learning guitar is different from other instruments. It's student-driven rather than parent-driven. Guitar is cool - it looks easy.

The reality, of course, is that it ain't easy. Isn't it one of those unfair truths of life that the cooler something seems to be, the harder it is to do? Otherwise it wouldn't be so impressive.

And yet, many people have successfully learned how to play the guitar. It's certainly doable. Our job, when teaching guitar, is to make the learning curve as shallow as possible while still allowing the student to feel a sense of achievement.

The solution is songs. Folk melodies, rock riffs, pop songs - we play together, we play separately, we revisit old favorites, we learn new ones, we take student requests. Sometimes students teach each other the songs, in addition to being taught by the instructor. We read standard notation, chord grids, and tab. Building song upon song: that is how you learn how to play the guitar.

So many times, the path to mastery is maddingly simple. Do you want to learn how to play the guitar? Then play the guitar. Don't just talk about it. Keep playing!

But the biggest part of the job, as the teacher, is to get students to want to play. To crave playing. For this, we have games, tricks, and a carefully structured curriculum with specially-designed materials. We are always refining our lesson plans and creating new ways to motivate, encourage, and reward.

The group guitar class is a good solution for students who are stuck in private lessons and need a change, and those who are looking for an enjoyable, affordable way to get started on guitar.

Our commitment is to make sure each student reaches their goals and has fun doing it. Best of all, we offer flexibility: an a la carte scheduling option, a liberal attendance policy, and a program customized to your child's level of experience.
