Jam Session

Create something new under the sun.

You can always use a song as a jumping off point for a jam. It's a time-tested way to get musicians finding common ground, even if they've never met. Just keep calling out tunes.

But what if you take it a step further and actually build the substance of the song together? That gives the phrase "making music" a whole new meaning.

In this workshop, you'll learn:

  • Prompts, games, and tricks that will help you and your fellow participants get comfortable getting creative together
  • How to adapt your instrument to the sound of the group, finding your own sonic space
  • How to play a bunch of different user-friendly instruments in order to think differently about your contribution to the group sound: percussion, toy flutes, autoharp, etc.
  • How to work within a harmonic framework to produce music that is truly beautiful
  • Communication tricks that will help you all start and end together, plus make changes to the music as it's happening
  • Licks, riffs, and patterns that will sound good right away - and how to create your own

The workshop will end with a concert for family and friends. You won't want it to end, though!

This workshop will be offered the weeks of May 28, June 25, and July 16, 2012 at 56 17th Street in Ansley Park. Sign up now!

All Eclectic Music workshops are one-week, half-day workshops in which participants (ages five and up) are grouped based on age and experience. Two workshops can be combined to create a full-day workshop. Tuition starts at $160 per workshop and is 10% off until April 1.
