Musical Theater Workshop

Put on a real scene from a musical - without all the drama.

"What's with the kilts, guys? This is 'A Chorus Line.'"The theater world can be cut-throat, fear-inducing, and just plain time-consuming. Here, we create a friendly yet still high-quality musical theater experience that allows each child to have a meaningful and challenging experience regardless of which role is assigned. No outsize egos, no agenda besides making sure each participant walks away more excited and happy about musical theater.

You'll work with an experienced director (who is also a passionate music educator) on a scene from a musical such as Annie! or Oliver. No experience is required on your part, however. Throughout the workshop, you will:

  • Develop your musical ear and vocal ability
  • Learn theatrical concepts such as blocking
  • Receive guidance on developing your character
  • Make friends through the fun, intense experience of working as an ensemble
  • Improve your dance skills through simple choreography
  • Make creative contributions to the scene through your ideas and your performance.

The week will, of course, end with a performance of the scene for your family and friends. There will be a low-key audition on the first day in order to select the right part for you.

This workshop will be offered the weeks of June 18, July 16, and July 23, 2012 at 56 17th Street in Ansley Park. Sign up now!

All Eclectic Music workshops are one-week, half-day workshops in which participants (ages five and up) are grouped based on age and experience. Two workshops can be combined to create a full-day workshop. Tuition starts at $160 per workshop and is 10% off until April 1.
