There are roughly a jillion different band camps, workshops, and jam sessions in metro Atlanta. Some go nuts with the extras (fancy 8 x 10 photo of your band, light show, etc.). While that can be really exciting, is it really the spirit of making your own band? To have everything planned out for you by grownups?

So, we won't choose all the songs for you. We won't tab everything out for you. We'll match you up with other players of your age and ability level, and we'll mentor you all to make it work with the instruments and skills you've got (which is how it works in real life).

Along the way, you'll be guided by some of Eclectic Music’s best instructors, who specialize in playing in bands, songwriting, production and more. With your band mates, you’ll learn to communicate and collaborate as musicians. Everything you've learned in your private lessons will be useful here, but with the group, you’ll be ready to take your music to the next level.

  • Contemporary hits and what makes them great.

  • Timeless songs by artists of the sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties and today, and what made them so influential.

  • Prompts, games, and tricks that will help you and your band mates get comfortable getting creative together.

  • How to adapt your instrument to the sound of the group - finding your own sonic space.

  • The three chords that you should try first when you're figuring out a song - plus the four chords that give modern music its distinctive sound.

  • How to figure out what key a song is in.

  • Scales, simplified - just what you need to get started.

  • Cues and tricks that will help you all start and end together, or even make changes to the music as it's happening.

  • Riffs, improvisations, licks, and patterns that will sound good right away - and how to create your own.

This ensemble is for existing Eclectic Music students or students enrolled in private lessons elsewhere, grades 4-6.

How early can I ARRIVE? How late can I LEAVE?

Students of classes may arrive up to 10 minutes prior to the arranged start time. Students are required to make arrangements to be picked up promptly at the pre-arranged end time.

Who are your PROGRAM leaders? What is the ratio of TEACHERs to STUDENTS?

Our program leaders are professional musicians and educators who have plenty of experience, not only playing, and teaching one on one, but also in group settings. Generally, the ratio of adults to children is no more than 1:8, not including any additional program staff and assistants.

Do I need to buy an instrument in order to participate?

If you have something to play, bring it along! Otherwise we often have instruments available for all our students.

I WANT to attend but haVE no experience/some experience/a lot of experience. Will it still be fun?

Yes! Our programs are set up to accommodate a variety of different experience levels. No matter musical history, classes are set up so students are sure to learn new things and have a great time. Our teachers and leaders are experts at building on a strength and incorporating a wide range of skills into class settings. When you sign up, you will have the opportunity to tell us all about unique skill set and interests. We will keep these interests in mind wherever possible.
